The Quad Cities’ Food Rescue Partnership hosted a biennial Food Rescue Workshop on September 26, 2024 in Davenport, IA.
The workshop followed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Wasted Food Scale through sessions with industry experts. More than 35 attendees learned about the important role individuals and professional food establishments play in reducing food waste. All attendees received a food rescue resource guide and SWAG.
The Food Rescue Partnership announced the 2024 Quad Cities Food Rescue Warrior and Member of the Year. Member of the Year highlighted Food Rescue US – Quad Cities efforts to use a web-based volunteer app to transport food donations to non-profit hunger-relief agencies. Since starting in 2023, Food Rescue US – Quad Cities has made a huge impact in our community. Together, volunteers have rescued more than 182,000 pounds of food from going to the landfill. Quad Citizens nominated three local individuals to be recognized as the 2024 Food Rescue Warrior. At the workshop, the FRP congratulated Chassie Peck and her daughters for their volunteerism. On Wednesdays, Chassie picks up her daughters from school and goes straight to doing food rescue, modeling for the kids what it is to be committed to something that helps other people. Chassie and her daughters have rescued more than 1,230 pounds of food!
